A native of Ohio who earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education from Kent State University, Welk has lived in Iowa and Nebraska for most of her life. Summers are spent in Green Lake, Wisconsin at the Welk cottage. She finds inspiration in her Dundee home and neighborhood in Omaha, and at her Wisconsin cottage.
She has worked in acrylic paint on board but has been exploring the oil medium in her recent paintings. Collaborating with her husband Robert, they have produced a series of serigraph prints that have been widely collected. Her paintings reflect her enjoyment of family and her surroundings. Welk is drawn to the American Regional Painters because of their use of design and historic narrative style.
